Technology is constantly evolving and advancing, with big tech companies playing a significant role in shaping the technology landscape. The rapid pace of technological progress has led to many new devices and technologies that have changed the way we live and work.

However, these advancements also raise concerns about privacy, security, and the potential for technology to be used in ways that are harmful to society. That’s why scientists, engineers, and policymakers must consider these issues as they develop and deploy new technologies.

Here are a few technologies you need to watch for in 2024.

Digital Immune System

The shift towards remote work as a result of the pandemic has led to an increased focus on cybersecurity and the need to protect against new threats. The concept of a “zero trust” security model has been widely adopted as a way to protect against these threats.

The term “digital immune system” is similar, but it emphasizes the idea of proactively identifying and responding to potential threats, rather than simply blocking them. A digital immune system includes multiple layers of protection, such as firewalls, intrusion detection, and prevention systems, and machine learning algorithms, that work together to detect and respond to potential threats in real time.

5G and 6G

5G is expected to have a significant impact on connectivity in 2024 and beyond. The increased bandwidth and low latency of 5G networks will enable new applications such as connected vehicles, augmented reality, and the Internet of Things.

The use of satellite technology to bring mobile connectivity to remote areas is also expected to be an important aspect of 5G.

In addition to 5G, the development of 6G is also being discussed by researchers and industry experts. 6G is expected to be even faster than 5G.

It will likely support new technologies such as ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) and massive machine-type communication (mMTC), allowing even more devices to connect simultaneously to the network. However, 6G is still in the early stages of development and is not expected to be widely available until around 2030.

In the meantime, 5G will continue to make an impact in 2023 in areas such as vehicle connectivity and automation. According to a survey conducted by the IEEE, 97% of respondents agreed that 5G will have a significant impact on these areas.

Metaverse

The concept of the metaverse is a virtual world that is fully immersive and interactive. Here, people can interact with each other and digital objects in a way that is similar to the real world. It is a combination of virtual reality, augmented reality, and other technologies.

Many big tech companies, such as Facebook, are investing in the development of the metaverse, with the goal of creating a new platform for communication, entertainment, and commerce.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, has stated that the company’s long-term vision is to create a metaverse that is more immersive than current forms of the internet.

However, the metaverse is still in its early stages, and it is uncertain whether the investments made by tech companies will pay off in the long term.

Adaptive AI

Adaptive AI, also known as online machine learning or dynamic learning, refers to the ability of AI systems to adapt and improve over time, based on real-time feedback from human and machine interactions.

This type of AI can self-correct and improve its performance in production or after deployment, making it more flexible and adaptable than traditional AI systems.

One of the key advantages of adaptive AI is its ability to adapt to specific environments and situations. For example, in the field of cybersecurity, adaptive AI can quickly adapt to new threats and defend against them more efficiently than humans. As more things and machines become interconnected, this ability becomes increasingly important.

Final Note

As technology continues to evolve and advance, it’s important for companies and organizations to trust and invest in advanced technology to fully leverage their potential. Knowing about the technologies that are likely to trend in 2024 can help companies to improve their operations, increase efficiency, and gain a competitive advantage.
